I purchased my xebra flash in September of 2006. My idea was to use for all of my in town driving. work, shopping and to run errands.
Blue has saved me 200 gallons of diesel that cost $3.74 a gallon today. So I would have to say that I made a good choice.
My xebra was a prototype 2. I paid $9,995 and received a $1,200 credit on my state taxes. I knew that Blue was as early production vehicle and might need work done on it.
They had to make a few changes but nothing exotic.
1. The memory in the radio would run down the small auxiliary battery if you didn’t drive it often. they didn’t hook up the wire. took me ten minuets to fix.
2. The controller laid down horizontally and would get water in it.
The dealer sent out the bracket and bolts to move the controller to a vertical position and repaired those he could get a hold of locally all as warranty work even if their warranty had expired.
3. For safety. The foot brake would disengage the traction motor. Wow. what if you happen upon a stop sign on an uphill? There was a diode that you had to clip the lead on one side. That was about a ten minuet job.
4. The contactor could fail if you hit a bump really hard. This fix took about an hour.
All of these repairs were completed with basic tools and wrenches that most folk have at home. The dealer that I work with repaired everyone he could get his hands on even if it was out of warranty at no charge.
This is where I learned that you should be careful in choosing your dealer. The dealer I would recommend you too has an outstanding reputation.
I asked the dealer while I was picking up Blue. So how often do I have to put water in the batteries? This big smile rolls over his face as he says, The batteries are totally maintenance Free. What a relief that was to hear.http://www.thestar.com/Business/article/300042
